TrailFox
Brand, UX, and a cross-platform app built end-to-end — TrailFox suggests the right outdoor activity for your kids based on energy and place, then helps families journal what they find.

TrailFox turns any spare half-hour outdoors into a small adventure with the kids. Tell it how much energy everyone has and where you are, and it picks an activity that actually fits the moment — from a two-minute garden game to a proper woodland expedition. OakFox designed, built, and launched the whole thing: brand, app, and store presence, on both iOS and Android.
The Problem
Most parents already know the kids should be outside more. The hard part is the moment itself: you’ve got twenty minutes, a tired toddler, and a back garden, and your brain has gone blank. The activity ideas online are written for perfect weather, two free hours, and a craft cupboard nobody actually has. What was missing was something that meets you where you are — small, doable ideas matched to the energy in the room and the space outside the door.
The Brief
Build a complete product from nothing: a brand, a cross-platform app, and a store presence. It had to feel calm and quick to use one-handed, work for a range of ages and outdoor spaces, and respect families’ privacy — no ads, no tracking, no harvesting children’s data. iOS and Android needed to ship together.
The Solution
Brand Identity
TrailFox is built around curiosity and the outdoors without tipping into twee. A fox — alert, at home in woods and gardens alike — anchors the mark, paired with a map pin and oak leaves to tie together where you are and what you find.
Colour Palette
- Forest (#2B5A17) — the primary brand colour. Grounded and natural, used for the logo, headings, and key actions.
- Warm Cream (#F7F6F1) — the dominant background. Softer than white and easy on the eye outdoors in bright light.
- Pine (#2B564F) — a deep teal-green for activity cards and moments of focus.
- Clay (#D4A373) — a warm terracotta for primary buttons, adding energy against the greens.
- Amber (#FFD6A5) — a soft accent for the higher-energy options and playful highlights.
Key Features
- Activity picker — choose your energy (calm or bouncy) and your place (garden, park, woods, street), and TrailFox suggests an activity that fits. Don’t fancy it? Try a different one.
- Hundreds of free activities — clear, short instructions written for real life with children, across gardens, parks, streets, and trails.
- Nature journal — capture what the kids spot and make with notes and photos: who noticed it, which sense they used, a sticker, a memory.
- Explorer profiles — set up a profile for each child so the experience feels like theirs.
- Your Spot — tell the app about your outdoor space (size, water, trees, mess tolerance) so suggestions always suit where you actually are.
- Premium activity packs — themed and seasonal collections (Minibeast, Night, Mud, Beach, the four seasons, and Wild Skills for older kids), each a one-time purchase. No subscriptions, ever.

Built Privately, By Design
TrailFox is used by adults with their children, so the data model was kept deliberately small. Accounts and content sync through Google Firebase, purchases run through RevenueCat and the app stores, and that’s the extent of it — no advertising, no third-party analytics, and nothing sold on. Accounts and journals can be deleted in full from inside the app.
